Our November Get-Together
Past, Present and Future

On Saturday November 25th we held our first face to face meeting since 2020. It was an emotional and inspiring afternoon with both familiar faces and new ones, young and old, all sharing their passion and enthusiasm for Ethiopia and our charity.

The trustees were truly overjoyed to see over 40 people at the event and we know that there are many more who would have liked to have been with us. We thank you for your support.

If you were unable to attend, or would like to revisit the afternoon, then you can see all of the presentations and discussions by selecting below.

The Year of Reading

This Year's Fund Raising Campaign

Exeter Ethiopia Link is committed to supporting education in Nekemte from early years through to university level. Our previous fundraising campaigns - The Year of the Librarian and The Year of the Girl – provided vital support for students and teachers in Nekemte and surrounding areas and this year we are focusing on the relationship between literacy and education by launching The Year of Reading.

By providing books and supporting librarians, children of all ages will have the chance to become better readers. Some will enjoy reading just for the sake of it, for many it will give them improved skills to follow written instructions, read signs and notices and enhance their employability, but most of all, improved reading skills will underpin overall educational achievement.

Organise an Autumn Fundraiser

We invite you to organise an autumn supper for some friends and family asking, in return, for a donation from your guests to buy books. £12 would buy 4 valuable and much needed books for one of our 34 libraries.

Click on the link below for suggestions and recipes for Ethiopian and traditional British dishes.

Will you be part of the Exeter Ethiopia Link Monthly Magic?

To help to make our projects sustainable into the future we are asking if you could sign up to a monthly donation.

£3 per month

This will buy 12 books for our libraries over a year.
We lend out 3000 books every month.

£5 per month

This will provide tutorials for 3 children to achieve literacy every year.
Over 150 girls have attended tutorials and we are now extending this to boys to bridge the literacy gap caused by covid and local security issues.
